Sunday 8 September

We were delighted to welcome friends and guests as we celebrated and commissioned Deborah as the new team leader of WPM, Vitalise.

We started by continuing our prayer focus for this month on the issue of slavery and human trafficking. Nicola led us in our prayers and encouraged us to pray in small groups after we had watched the following clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y-a8dAHDQoo

Revd Emma Sykes (Associate Rector of St Martin in the Bullring) spoke from Acts 16:11-15. Using the example of Lydia she talked about our primary calling to be disciples of Jesus and our secondary calling to live out of the transforming life of Jesus where we are in the ordinary life that God has given us.

The Very Revd Catherine Ogle (Dean of Birmingham Cathedral) talked about Gregory the Great who sent St Augustine as a missionary to England. She reminded us of the need for us to take time to see what God is doing around us and join in. We need to be missional just as Augustine was in the sixth century and recognise what is holy in those around us.

We were very grateful to Bishop Clive, the WPM trustees and management team for their expressions of love and support for WPM and Deborah as she starts in this new role. Bishop Clive encouraged to feel the love of the City and Churches towards us as a community.

The evening finished with tea and delicious cakes. A huge thank you to all who came and everyone who helped out in various ways to make the evening so special!
